Alternative WiGLE map display & some new features
Hi guys,
I've made my project using WiGLE data for Chicago.
The application has two main features:
* Visual display of wireless network concentration in Chicago by coloring areas in different color. For this purpose red color is used for high and green color for low concentration.
* Ability to dynamically query the database and display wireless networks in an area marked by a circle.
You can try it at:

Also here is the tutorial:

Theres an error in the documentation on the link you provided :
"Querying WiGLE data
WiGLE has a documented API for querying their database. Unfortunately this API isn’t stable, so be sure to check for latest API updates on their Wiki at https://wigle.net/wiki/index.cgi?API and forums at https://wigle.net/phpbb/. "
There is NO documented API, there is only the accessmethods deduced from the Jigle client, and confirmed by the Wigle Founding Fathers triumvirate as working. These accessmethods and their functionality can change at any time without any prior notice and without any information on what has been changed, at the discretion of the Wigle Founding Fathers.

I stated that API, or access method as you call it, is unstable. And that is necessary to visit WiGLE Wiki and forums to check for any updates regarding that. I think this is clear in the documentation.

I like the idea, but your project has the same problems as using Jigle & Digle. It doesn't query all the data for the area. I'm basing this off the screenshot you posted vs. a screenshot I took from the Web Maps.
Yes, the problem is large amount of data on small area. I tried to resolve this by creating a grid and then assigning to each cell number of APs that belong to particular cell. Try to zoom more in and then refresh with "Show Wireless Distribution". As data is being queried dynamically on smaller areas it will display more accurate data.
For this project grid was set to 1000 m2. It's possible to create another grid with less cells that would be used on zoom level like on the screenshot. With that strategy it would be possible to cover large areas with all data.
Also as we are using PostGIS it's possible to merge multiple cell with same number of APs. That would also reduce amount of data.
