Tar files not working? / any progress on command line postin

I've always posted tar.gz files in the past. I have not posted for 2 months. Today I tried to post a tar.gz file and each time it failed with no comment. Posting xml, csv, and gps files worked fine.

Years ago there was some discussion of enabling the ability to post via command line. Has there been any development in that direction?

time/filename/username would be a huge help!
