Raster MapPack Versions
What's the difference between 2.0 and 2.1 raster mappacks?

2.1 mappacks are generated via our advanced SquiGLE^tm technology. combining the strengths of kittens with those of orbital weapons systems.
Any way to still download 2.0 mappacks? They look nicer.

if the file was generated before it'll still be up, just change the version number. otherwise no, since the 2.0 mappacks used a gigantic and slow database which has now been retired.
SquiGLE, as it aspires to ~20ms/frame rendering times, uses the simple (yet speedy) AWT paint functions, while I believe the rigle engine makes quite a bit more use of the slower, but considerably prettier, Java2D functions. Line stroking, prettier text, alpha trans, etc. A non-realtime mode for squigle could be written that uses the java2D libraries to generate higher quality raster images, but branching toward a *slower* graphics library is kinda the opposite direction that I had planned for SquiGLE.
