New user here.. Great info on the site..
I have a HP Pavilion zv6270us laptop with an internal antennae.. (link below)

I first heard of wardriving when visiting our daughter in Colorado a couple years ago, and have a renewed interest in it..
I have a Garmin e-trex GPS (yellow one) and my HP laptop..
First, I need to know what cable I need for the GPS to plug into the laptop.. It will need to be a USB cable, with or without a power plug..
Second, is there a way to add a better antennae to this laptop without butchering it, or do I need to get a PCMCIA card and antennae..
Cheap, but not the cheapest, and reliablility is my motto..

I have Jigle and Digle installed on my desktop to explore the software, but Jigle doesn't seem to work.. Maps don't show up Digle works OK and I am able to browse whatever maps I download.. Something I'm missing? Do I need Jigle? I am up to date with Java.. I also have Netstumbler installed on the laptop, and it picks up my wireless, and a neighbors, so that also works fine..
Am I using the right software?

Any assistance for this newbie is most appreciated..

To get the gps to the laptop with usb, you are going to need the data cable for the garmin. The problem is it will be a serial. This means you will need a serial to usb adapter. To buy both of them your looking at $50 to $70 dollars. If it was me I would buy this http://www.usglobalsat.com/item.asp?itemid=60&catid=17

I have one and love it. Just install the driver and plug it in. It outputs to a com port so just point N.S to the com port and you have gps.

Buy a pmcia card. Orinoco 8410 has a MC connector or a senao nl-2511cd plus ext2 is a mmcx. If you don't need correct signal numbers from N.S I would get the senao. It haves more power ( use the NDIS 5.1 ) in N.S.

For the antenna thats easy http://www.fab-corp.com/product.php?pro ... 250&page=1 Its small stays on WELL above highway speeds. You will need a pigtail from the card to the antenna.

As for Jigle and Digle I can't help haven't used them.

Anything that outputs NMEA 0183 to a com port will work in Netstumbler.

I'm in it for the numbers, so I haven't made many maps. The ones that I have I used Delorme Street Atlas and www.honet.com/WiMap.

I started out with N.S then added a Kismet drone and Kiswin. That lead to a tough book and kismet ( thanks to breakmyn). Now I just got a 2nd tough book installing linux w/ Kismet.

So what is my stumbling set-up Sony Vaio+ N.S+ Street Atlas+ Kiswin +Lt-20 gps and Gpsgate.
Kismet running two cards, amp all on Moble Mark antennas. As soon as I get the other laptop running then I have 4 cards under Kismet.

If you want to learn more about Netstumbler try the N.S fourms. A word of caution, read a lot before you ask any questions.
