Bad WEP Data

There seems to be a lot of bad WEP data on Wigle. I know for sure it's really bad in Peoria County, IL, but I'd imagine there's problems elsewhere. It seems to be random, as to whether your database says they have wep or not. I know for a fact that many of the ap's in your database don't have wep, but your database says they do. I also know that the data is good, 'cause I was the one who uploaded it :D . Is there some weird way that wep is interpreted by the parser or something?

anything is possible :-)

if you could forward examples of suspect data to wigle-admin@wigle.net that would help.
(its also possible that the point was once seen WEPped, even though it may not be now.)

i believe we mark as WEPed anything seen wepped, but i've been wrong before. if we do, perhaps we should be weighting them.

Netstumbler, for one, doesn't always get good WEP data. It thinks my network is WEP'd when it's not. Currently the network table gets it's WEP info from the last location uploaded for it, we assume that's the most recent and therefore most accurate data.

Like uhtu said, if you're seeing contradicting data let us know. Every version of every stumbling package seems to change it's file format. :)

Well, I was gonna go and get my log files from netstumbler, and I hear this clunk clunk screeetch clunk clunk from my server. HD died, and of course my tape drive just happened to die on me about a week ago, so I have no backups. :( I'll redrive some of the areas that have issues, and I'll send the data to you then. It might be awhile though, I'm startin' college this weekend, so I'll have to do it in a couple weeks.
