Hi,

I am wondering what's the correct way of interpreting the geographical stats provided here: https://wigle.net/gps/gps/main/genslicestats

I assumed that the "Count" field corresponds to the number of WiFi APs detected in the region. However, the numbers don't seem to match with the database dump obtained through API calls.

For example, for a small 0.2 sq. mile area completely contained inside postal code 10019 (Manhattan, NY), the API call gives me more than 1600 APs which have been updated within the last month (July, 2013) itself. In comparison, the stats page shows the count as 493 for this postal code.

Thanks.

"unreliably and experimentally" would be what I'd reach for. those are old data, and from the looks of it probably not accurate even when they were fresh.
