I noticed that on the Nexus 4, every network is tagged with [ESS] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_se ... ervice_set
Even the "wide open" ones.

On my old GT-5510, the networks weren't [ESS] tagged.

I also noticed that even "cloaked" (null ssid) networks are logged now. This is a good thing.

But, about the [ESS] tag.
Is it just me? Is it because the Nexus 4 has 5ghz support? (don't think so)
Is it a Nexus 4 bug?

It's not a 5ghz thing.

It should be marking APs with repeaters, but then you should be seeing both the repeater and the host, but you seem to be seeing only one. Very odd.

Can anyone with a Nexus 4 4.3 confirm it?
Maybe is a configuration thing?
Or, even maybe, a 4.3 update thing.

both my nexus 7s (2012 and 2013) on android 4.3 do this.
that should just be passed directly from wpa_supplicant, so i'd be surprised for it to be device specific,
but that's a very interesting note.

i've seen several networks without the [ESS] tag recently, so it isn't all of them that are being populated that way.
