map packs for outside of north america
what are the chances of getting map packs for outside of north america? (specifically sydney, australia)
what would be cool would be sucks the info out of something like mapblast.
the only app i've seen which works here is the one which comes with kismet.

In order to generate the mappacks I would need to have some kind of geographic data for the area. We've found some semi-decent data for europe that is free, but nothing approaching the detail we get from the U.S. Census Bureau. If anyone finds a source of nice, free, GPS-based geographic data (roads/lakes/cities) we'd love to hear about it!
It's probably possible to use the same basic method as gpsmap from kismet to generate RiGLE mappacks on the fly. Of course for legal reasons these mappacks couldn't be distributed here, but the script probably could. I'll see if I can whip something up this weekend or this next week.
groovy. that's kind of what i had in mind. if my perl skills were something other than abysmal i'd do this myself.
I haven't a clue what kind of data is needed to interopulate with WiGLE, but would the following link help for providing Canadian mappacks?

The up-and-coming Musatcha.com wifi mapper will have native support for TerraServer, and Mapblast [as well as WiGLE stuff]. When I get that done, I'll see if I can take the code for mapblast and stuff and upload it somewhere so you can make mappacks. Give me 2 or 3 weeks.
