HOW TO PROTECT YOUR WIRELESS NETWORK
Do you have a wireless computer network at your home or office? Did you know that if your wireless network is not properly protected, you could become a victim of a crime known as “war-driving?”
The term “war-driving” refers to a criminal armed with a wireless-enabled laptop computer who drives through neighborhoods and business parks to see if he can access unprotected and unencrypted wireless computer networks. If the criminal is successful in accessing a wireless network, he can hijack the Internet connection to send spam or download illegal materials, and he could view the private data on the victim’s network (financial documents, credit-card numbers, social-security numbers, etc.) and use that information to commit identity fraud.
