Utter failure to load cache

Hello folks,

I'm new to wigle/jigle/digle, but not to wardriving. I immediately fell in love with the whole wigle'ish idea and wanted to test it out on my laptop.

Jigle works just fine but is rather memory consuming, taking account that JRE needs to be running also. I'd very much prefer running only digle and herein lies the problem. I can't load station cache files and for some reason this also prevents me from viewing maps.

Heres the console output

Code: Select all

DiGLE Version 0.1.1 (Beta 1, Patch 1) found maps: =========== <choose mappack> (empty.mappack, 1 planes) Washtenaw County (TGR26161.mappack, 4 planes) commencing login query... Authentication Succeeded for sirtuho proceeding... making request for: Lat: -84,13375 Lat: -83,53939 Lon: 42,48566 Lon: 42,021343 ... retrieving data... saving... uncompressing gzip... parsing received data in C:\Program Files\JiGLE\data\Washtenaw County.WiGLE... utter failure to load cache file "C:\Program Files\JiGLE\data\Washtenaw County.WiGLE".
And thats it, no map window.

- I did use search engine here before posting ;)
- Tried binaries from download page installation package (v0.1.1) and the revised binary from this post: http://wigle.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=2080#2080 (v0.1.1). Results are identical.
- Tried changing locales/i18n settings just in case there was still something fishy going on with commas and periods. No go.
- Tried downloading another mappack and extracting it to jigle directory. In case this problem would somehow be map specific. Same results.
- Tried extracting compressed cache file manually. File sizes match to the byte. Didn't bother to do a diff.
- Even tried erasing all station information from the cache file making it practically clear, while still maintaining the format. No go.

Am I missing something here or is this a bug?

My setup:
- 300MHz p2
- 96MB ram
- Windows 2000 pro with regional setting turned to Finnish.
- Netstumbler
- 300W true sine wave inverter for car usage
And hopefully soon Digle and a gps unit to get me onto the next level of wardriving.

Ok, I'm getting some results here. Few times I've succesfully viewed maps with access points, but right now I'm getting error "received 0 stations". That message ain't truly accurate since the package I get contains several hundred lines of legitimate looking station info. I guess there was something wrong with how wigle server responded to digle client requests. Looks like someones doing something nice with the database servers now. Thanks mate.

do you have a machine with enough memory to run jigle, and see if you get the same results? can you either post here or or email to wigle-admin@wigle.net the area you're looking at so we can see what's going on?
thanks.

My desktop computer should do the job: CPU 1500+ athlon, 1GB of RAM. It has windows 2000 professional installed and also regional settings set to finnish.

It behaves exactly as my laptop. Right now they both run jigle as expected. Digle authenticates, but receives 0 stations when queried from wigle.net.
Like this

Code: Select all

DiGLE Version 0.1.1 (Beta 1, Patch 1) found maps: =========== <choose mappack> (empty.mappack) Washtenaw County, MI (TGR26161.mappack) commencing login query... Authentication Succeeded for sirtuho proceeding... making request for: Lat: -84.13375 Lat: -83.53939 Lon: 42.48566 Lon: 42.021343 ... retrieving data... saving... uncompressing gzip... parsing received data in C:\Downloads\JiGLE-0.7.2\JiGLE\data\Washtenaw County, MI.WiGLE... received 0 stations.
Map windows is being shown and everything seems to work ok.

Now, when trying to load stations from local cache I get this:

Code: Select all

DiGLE Version 0.1.1 (Beta 1, Patch 1) found maps: =========== <choose mappack> (empty.mappack) Washtenaw County, MI (TGR26161.mappack) Loading as WiGLE cache file... could not find any stations in C:\Downloads\JiGLE-0.7.2\JiGLE\data\Washtenaw County, MI.WiGLE.
And this time map doesn't appear.

When I open up the cache file with a text editor I see 10567 lines of data.

[EDIT]
can you either post here or or email to wigle-admin@wigle.net the area you're looking at so we can see what's going on?
thanks.
Just for testing I've used the mappack that comes with digle, Washtenaw County, MI (TGR26161.mappack). What I want to see in the end is my own neighbourhood. In mappacks coordinate style:
from lat1=60.5362155 long1=22.140043
to lat2=60.3481415 long2=22.380791

well, if jigle works, then the wigle infrastructure is working, and its a digle issue. which is good and bad. bad because its an issue, and good because one of the most vicious and tenacious delphi hackers on earth wrote digle and won't stop until its perfect.
i'm sure arkasha will have more relevant questions for you.

Interesting. Sounds like an internationalization problem - especially if the data loads. I'll poke around in the parser and see if i can't isolate the problem.

try http://wigle.net/~arkasha/DiGLE.exe now. might be fixed - windows/delphi are awfully silly about localized, non-parameterized StrToFloat calls. (I understand that got fixed in later, expensive versions of delphi)

Works like a charm. Now digle loads stations from both local cache and wigle.net. Thanks arkasha!

I want you *igle staff to know I appreciate your work very much. I was thinking of creating a mapping program like this a while back, but in the end decided against it. This kind of system is a rather large and time consuming undertaking. And frankly, I probably lack the skills to have accomplished anything half as nice you've done. Once I found you guys I totally jumped aboard, I love free rides

Cheers mates! Expect loads of wardriving data coming your way soon.

Excellent, I'm glad it worked. (I was working a little blind here, but I saw that I'd "missed a spot"). Thanks for your interest, and keep on driving, posting, and telling people to secure their @#%^ing networks!
