Manufacturer Stats
I've added some manufacturer stats based on the bssid octets. Enjoy.

Hi bobzilla,
can you tell us a bit about the selection criteria used? For instance I saw that the SSID 'draadloos' is actually "draadloos %".
What other treasures have you hidden like no case etc?
Cheers,
mokum

Manufacturer stats based on the first octet of the BSSID is great, but one question remains : Did you use the official IEEE OUI list, or something akin to the ap_manuf list from kismet ?
I fail to see Global Sun Technologies (00:03:2F) on the list, and they are definitely among those that has manufactured a high percentage of the AP's out there. Kismet's ap_manuf list shows that octet as belonging to Linksys, which probably stems from the fact that GST were the ODM delivering a lot of the first 802.11b devices to Linksys and to other manufacturer. Actually those octets could be used by D-link (DI-624's) and a whole host of other companies.
If you are going by the ap_manuf list, iso the official IEEE OUI list, the manufacturer stats just proves the old saying : "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics"...

Both lists contain inaccuracies, and given that anyone can set whatever bssid they want, this won't be an exact thing regardless. But to answer your question, it leans on Kismet's list.
I hope you meant SSID and Manufacturers stats when you said "Both lists contain inaccuracies..." . If the IEEE OUI list contains inaccuracies, I'm going to kick some butt next time the IEEE ask for a fee from me.Both lists contain inaccuracies, and given that anyone can set whatever bssid they want, this won't be an exact thing regardless. If you want an updated ap_manuf file generated from the latest IEEE list, and pruned for any non-wireless device manufacturers, holler and I'll send it to you.

Whelp, I can pry do an ieee stat somewhat easily, for those that would see the subleases of subleases of chip companies rather than the brand names.
Is that a bobzillaism for "Sheesh, that Dutch dude is a PITA" ?Whelp, I can pry do an ieee stat somewhat easily, for those that would see the subleases of subleases of chip companies rather than the brand names.
It's just that it irks the statistics oriented part of my braincells, when I know that probably 20% of the Linksys number in reality belongs to D-link, Trend, Typhoon, Topcom, and others, since they also purchase ODM devices from GST, and don't request that their own OUI is used in the MAC address embedded in the firmware. (Lazy ass manufacturers...)
IMHO, it would give a far more realistic overview of the manufacturer distribution, if the list is made from the IEEE OUI's.

Great list! Where would I look on the site (or if it doesn't exist, may I request it?) to get the OUIs (Vendor IDs) for these.
With such a large dataset, it seems likely that coverage is present for almost all devices - and I'm looking to compile a list of known Wireless OUIs.
Thanks,
Freddie
