i personally do not own a lap top, but i am getting a hp ipaq hx2495 soon and am guessing the range on those things arent top notch...

my question is: is there a way to improve the wireless range on an ipaq?

The WiFi range on the iPaq is actually very good. I started my WiFi adventures with an iPaq 5450 and currently run an hx2755. I've gathered most of my 10K+ APs with these little guys and WiFiFoFum from Aspecto Software. While it's only an active scanner, it does a nice job.

Using the same software on a Qtek (HTC) S200 with TomTom Bluetooth MkII GPS and it works great. Lately I've been walking the streets around the trainstations in Oslo while waiting for the late trains..
